VIZAG MAKES IT TO THE ‘TALE OF CLEAN CITIES’ STUDY BY WATERAID

Within a little window of one hour, Mother nature took its call and crushed the City of destiny so much with the mega Cyclone HudHud, two years ago. The Government responded to it well enough in time to restore the city back to its original roots within a week. The precautionary measures and the pre warnings clearly worked out well to avoid a lot of loss and damage.

Rising from the ruins after the devastating Hudhud cyclone, Visakhapatnam became the only city from India selected for its cleanliness and sanitation by WaterAid for inclusion in the study “WaterAid (2016): A tale of clean cities: Insights for planning urban solution from Ghana, India and the Philippines (Synthesis Report).” The city of destiny secured eighth place in the first Smart City Challenge in 2015 and fifth in the Swachh Bharat Survekshan in 2016 also has become a priority and source of pride for the city, says the the report.

“I’m glad to announce that Visakhapatnam is the only city from India selected for the study. It is a model for sanitation, an economic destination, a hospitality hub and a vibrant metropolis. I would also like to congratulate the district administration under the district Collector which has chased progress and implemented the sanitation and green initiatives on a war-footing basis,” stated the Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on his official facebook page.
