So far, people wishing to travel internationally from Andhra Pradesh had to go to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad as there were no international flights directly from the state. But with Etihad Airways’ decision to start operating flights from the state, international travel is now more convenient for AP citizens.

International carrier Etihad Airways has agreed, to operate flights to overseas destinations from the three major airports in Andhra Pradesh — Tirupati, Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada and plans are on by the company. Etihad airways vice-president Vijay Poonoosamy responded positively to a request made by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu in this regard.

Mr. Naidu, who is in Tianjin in China as part of the World Economic Forum meeting, met Mr. Poonoosamy and asked him to explore the possibility of operating international flights from the State. Mr. Poonoosamy responded positively and assured Mr. Naidu that the airways would apply for necessary permissions from the Civil Aviation Ministry soon.
