Andhra Pradesh’s Energy Saving Model Will Be Highlighted at BRICS Summit
Visakhapatnam is hosting the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) Working Group’s summit on Energy Saving and Energy Efficiency today and tomorrow. In this event, the five countries will make presentations on the measures taken by them in the field of energy saving and energy efficiency during the deliberations.
The Andhra Pradesh government’s efforts in energy saving and energy efficiency such as LED street lighting programme and the central government’s PAT (Performance Achievement and Trade) programme for industrial energy efficiency will be showcased by the central government.
Disclosing this to reporters on Sunday, energy principal secretary Ajay Jain said the Centre decided to showcase AP’s efforts in energy saving measures at the meeting. “Several major countries like China and Brazil have evinced interest in exchanging global LED technologies,” Jain said.
He also said that all the BRICS countries were keen to take part in the workshop in Visakhapatnam and study the Vizag model of LED energy-efficient street lighting programme by which Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has been able to save energy to the tune of 70 lakh units and Rs. 4.20 crore per annum.
The BRICS group comprises developing countries where the energy growth is expected to be larger than developed countries. Keeping this in view, the countries have recently entered into a MOU in energy saving and energy efficiency. The MOU intends to pursue their energy cooperation through joint research and technology projects.
