Mangipudi Sai Srinivas, a civil engineer from Visakhapatnam, was reportedly kidnapped from Gboko, a town in the Benue State of North-central Nigeria, on Wednesday.
Mr. Srinivas and his colleague Anish Sharma were travelling in a convoy of three cars to their workplace, Dangote Cement Plc plant. The moment the two cars passed a signal, a group of men surrounded their car, dragged the driver out and took them away.
Srinivas has been working for the Dangote Cement in Gboko for the last three years. He had earlier worked for the Aditya Birla group in Raipur.
According to reports in newspapers, the engineer’s wife Lalita met the inspectors of the Special Branch in the Police Commissionerate and also submitted a formal complaint to District Collector N. Yuvaraj on Thursday. She came to know about it when she could not contact her husband on his phone and she ended up contacting the plant officials.
According to Ms. Lalita, the company officials told her that the entire city was cordoned off by the police and an intensive search launched for the kidnapped duo.
“A senior official from the company told us that it could be the handiwork of local gangs. But so far, the kidnappers have not contacted any of us,” said Ms. Lalita.
We hope Mr. Srinivas comes back home safely…
