“Air Force One” is not the name of one particular plane. Its the name given to any plane that the President of United States is travelling at that particular moment. Basically a radio call name given to the plane carrying the president in order to avoid confusion with other planes travelling in that particular area. Similarly the Army aircraft the president is travelling is called Army One, his helicopter is called Marine One.

It was founded in 1944 as the Presidential Pilot Office at the direction of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Various propeller-driven aircraft were used till 1962. In 1962, President John F. Kennedy became the first President to fly in a jet specifically built for presidential use – a modified Boeing 707. Over the years, several other jet aircraft have been used.
